We all know how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and certainly one necessary component of this includes regular trips to the Dentist’s office.  However, despite these healthy aspects, I do not look forward to them, quite honestly.  Hilander Dental used to have a sign in its waiting room that said, “We Cater to Cowards.”  I would always smile – because I knew this was there exclusively for me!

That said, our mind, given the chance, can do unimaginable things to our psyche – and the trips to the Dentist always tend to elevate those anxieties.  Embarrassing to a point I’m sure, but I have never been one to hide my fears.  

Dr. Pond, this particular thank-you goes to all of your staff, particularly those at the counter – welcoming us with warm smiles and telling us to have a nice day when we leave.  But, a very special thank-you needs to go to the Dental Hygienist who, probably drawing the short straw a few years back when my case was given to her, Ms. Adrianne Wilste-Hiatt.  It’s pretty evident she reviews my file before each visit to remind her about all my quirks in an attempt to calm my anxieties.  She is very good at what she does and the consummate professional.  Serious when she needs to be (usually scolding me for not flossing more regularly) and telling a funny story in the next breath.  This kind of attention, for a person nervous already, is nice to receive and appreciated.  If I wasn’t so insane, I’d even say that I was actually looking forward to my next visit!  I do need to add that while Ms. Adrianne is the Hygienist that I currently go to, I am convinced that I would receive and appreciate the same professionalism and personal attention in calming my anxieties from any of the other hygienists.  All of you truly are… a class-act.

So thank you, Dr. Pond, for employing professionals that excel in all aspects of their jobs – from the top down.  Give Ms. Adrianne a pat-on-the-back for me and let her know that while she see’s nothing out of the ordinary for her doing her job, there is one patient that appreciates her efforts.
